The Old Blog
For those wondering, this was the original site of the posts before I decided to move them here just in case the original site wiped out the data for whatever reason.

Recommended Websites
Filmsite
An amazing site for reading up on films and the history of the medium. I can’t recommend this site enough for movie buffs.

Limyaael’s Fantasy Rants
Whether or not you agree with everything she has to say, you can often at least appreciate how she says it and the many points she makes about basic storytelling.

RedLetterMedia
Whether you heard about them through their famous Star Wars prequel reviews (and the rest of the Plinkett series), Half in the Bag, or Wheel of the Worst, you can’t help but take notice of what they have to say, even if the way they say it might not be your cup of tea.

Recommended Readings
“How to Say Nothing in 500 Words” by Paul McHenry Roberts
A famous essay on the art of essay writing. Even now I sometimes go back to it whenever I find myself having trouble writing either for this blog or for work. Definitely something any aspiring writer should read.

“Silly Novels by Lady Novelists” by George Eliot
While much has changed since this essay was first written, I’ve found that quite a few modern romance novels (to say nothing of fanfiction) fall into the traps of bad writing brought up by Eliot. I would also argue that in some ways, some of her points are relevant to the writing of some female characters today, even if the issues differ slightly from her day.

“Of Weirdos and Eccentrics” by Pico Iyer
While not an essay on writing or anything like that, I just happen to rather like this piece, even if there are some parts to it I call into question. Regardless, even years after first encountering it in school, I still can recall it with fondness.
